Postal surveys

In a postal survey, the data collection is based on self completion schemas, which the selected target group has received by mail.

There are several advantages to this method:

It is possible to collect answers from a fairly large amount of persons, within a relatively short time span, and a relatively limited economic range.

The respondents get the possibility to answer the questionnaire when they feel like it and can find the time and space. In this manner, the respondents can use more time to think about difficult or complex questions when it is required, in order to provide the best answers.

It is possible to present communication material or products etc. to the respondent, as long as it is possible to mail it along with the questionnaire.

A disadvantage is:

The response percentage can be relatively low on a postal returned questionnaire survey. MEGAFON takes this into consideration and we are very experienced in carrying through this type of survey. To the respondents, who have not returned a completed schema, we either send out a friendly reminder along with a copy of the questionnaire. Or we make a telephone call to the respondents in question, and ask them if they want to answer the questions over the telephone.

It is MEGAFON’S experience that some of the elder target groups, do not want to participate in telephone surveys, based on ie. uncertainty or hearing disability. In these circumstances it can therefore be a good idea to choose a postal survey. Hereby, the individual respondent gets the possibility to ask a relative to help with filling out the questionnaire.
